Welcome to Alda Theatre
GILGAMESH
With Gilgamesh we redefine stage combat in theatre. Fights in film have developed and adapted in the last twenty years. Great fight choreography in film has become immensely popular, such as in the Matrix trilogy and in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. However, fights in the theatre have evolved very little.
The Epic of Gilgamesh is brought to life by Alda Theatre through an explosive and talented team of martial artists, gymnasts, dancers, musicians and physical theatre specialists.
We use actors who are very specifically chosen for their abilities in gymnastics, acrobatics, dance and martial arts, performing fights as a tool to tell the story. The creative and fresh fights will form part of a new movement concept, pushing the bounds of theatre.
Gilgamesh is the 5000 years old, powerful and touching story of a king who thinks he is immortal. But when he loses his only friend and equal, Enkidu, he realizes that he too may die and tries to conquer death as any other enemy. Gilgamesh fails in his quest but learns to accept man's greatest fear - we will not survive.
